Holland Sports Athletics Club members were out in force this weekend again, completing marathons in far-flung places. Spring marathon season is definitely upon us as we move towards the big-one: the London Marathon next Sunday!
Vienna Marathon
Well done Tom Thornley who flew to the Austrian capital for the spring marathon. It was hot around the streets of Vienna, so a PB was going to be hard to come-by. Well done Tom who finished under 3 hours in a time of 2 hours and 56 minutes.
Manchester Marathon
Local lad, James Pickles was in action in the north-west, taking part in the Manchester marathon. Posting a time of 2 hours 53 minutes, it was great to see another member of the senior squad crack the 3 hour boundary.
Newport Marathon
The quickest time of the day came from Ben Hall – someone who has raced for over distances from 3000 metres right up to 200 miles. Around the hilly Newport course in west Wales, Ben posted a time of 2 hours 35 minutes and 58 seconds – a time that firmly puts him up with some of the best club runners in the country.
Boston Marathon
Two Holland Sports runners were in Boston to compete in the original ‘big city’ marathon. Boston is famed for its great atmosphere and is interesting because it is a ‘point-to-point’ with athletes shipped out to the start on big yellow school buses. Well done Steve Aish who clocked up another sub-3, coming home in a time of 2 hours 49 minutes and 8 seconds. Lucy Berryman has consistently been one of the best runners at Holland Sports since joining the club a year ago. She picked up an injury in the build-up to the marathon – still completed the course in 4 hours and 29 minutes.
Next week, there are fifteen local athletes starting at Greenwich and completing the 26.2 miles to finish on the Mall – it promises to be a great morning of racing!
