Local lad, Oloff Van Zyl, was in action at the weekend in the World Masters Tetradecathlon Championships, held in Helsinki Finland. Taking place over two days, the tetradecathlon consists of fourteen events with the 100 metre hurdles, high jump, 1500 metres, 400 metre hurdles, shot putt and 200 metre sprint on Day 1, followed by the 100 metres, long jump, 400 metres, javelin throw, 800 metres, 200 metre hurdles, discus throw and finally a 3000 metres on the track on Day 2.
Well done Oloff, who was competing for his native South Africa on the track and across the field events. Not only did Oloff take home the gold medal from the international field of competitors but he also set a new Men’s 55 – 59 world record in the process, scoring 8609 points: cracking stuff.
