On a calm, sunny, still day it is beautiful up on the Downs just along from Epsom Race course. On a breezy day at the end of February, it’s a bit exposed and the rain comes across the Downs with very little protection from the elements. But it didn’t stop the enthusiasm of the youngest competitors at Holland sports Athletics Club who were out in cross-country action on Sunday just gone. Great running from the Under 11 boys’ team with Joe and Elliott – that kicked off the interest from Holland Sports Athletics Club – both boys working hard through the field right up until the end. Well done to the Under 11 girls’ team of Maisie, Isla, Esme, Greta, Isabelle and Alex who pushed on into the wind at the top of the Downs and finished the race as all cross-country races should be finished – sprinting hard across the finish line and, after getting warm clothes back on, devouring a selection of sweet treats.
