The senior endurance squad were well represented on Sunday at a frosty and cold Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. Around a hilly course that took athletes up to the top of the vinyards before dropping them back down to the main building itself, the ground was muddy where it had been in sunshine and frozen-hard where the low winter sun had not reached above the surrounding hills.
The men’s Under 20 team consisted of three runners that have all progressed from the junior ranks to the seniors this year. Well done to Ben H (12th), Ewan M (28th) and Lucas A (32nd) who came home seventh placed team.
Well done to Sarah Nixon-Browne, the club’s sole senior woman, who led the charge around the two lap course. She was in fine voice as she then supported the men who took home a third placed team medal – the first time that Holland Sports have ever medalled in the senior men’s category. Jack Kavanagh led the team home, winning the county title for the second year in succession, backed up in the scoring six by Kieran Barnes (12th), Ben Pearce (21st), the fast finishing Harvey Voller (24th), Chris Blackburn (30th) and Ben Hall (34th). Making up the squad were Lyndon Marfell (39th), Luke Davis (41st), James Ellis (73rd), Tom Thornley (79th) and Paul Ramsier (184th). A great afternoon of running in a very beautiful location, it was great to see so much support for Holland Sports out on the course, as well as Nick Richards (who is completing his Endurance Official course currently), out mashalling the races themselves. Roll on the third fixture of the Surrey League on Mitcham common next weekend.
