Holland AC Medal Again in Masters 5km & Elite 3000m Race:
Wednesday night was the Night of the 3000’s at Wimbledon AC hosting 9 seeded 3000m races with an evening finale of a stacked elite race with some of the UK’s best including our very own Jack Kavanagh.
Just being on the starting line in this elite field is an achievement in itself and can be quite daunting especially in Jack’s case as he is still classed as a newbie to the sport, however once the gun went he tactically positioned himself and throughout the race displayed track craft of a seasoned veteran. They hit the bell with a breakaway group of 8 athletes and as they hit the back straight the top 3 positions were more or less decided and jack was in that top 3, he held his ground with a final 200m kick to finish in 3rd place leaving national title holders in his wake.
Within the running fraternity Jack is creating quite a bit of chat as he’s come from no were and in the photos of this post I have included his Run Britain Race Ranking Graph which shows a phenomenal steep curve of progression rarely seen, Jack’s time of 8:14 also achieved the England Team Selection criteria for the National 5km Road Racing Squad an absolutely outstanding achievement.
Tuesday Night was also a night of racing but this time for two of our club Masters Neil Danby & Andrew Cornish both VM55’s (aged between 55 & 59) they competed in the VETS Masters 5km road championships at Battersea Park in pretty much perfect conditions. Neil finished 1st VM55 in a time of 16:25 running a new Battersea Vets record & Andy finished 12th VM55 in a time of 20:24 only 8 seconds off his season best which was exceptional especially as he raced the County 10 mile road champs only two days earlier.
Neil is having one of his best seasons in his age group & at 58 years he’s toping the British Rankings in 4 different race distances including 5km road, 5 mile road, 3000m track & Parkrun, he hopes to add the 800m, 1500m, Mile & 10km to the list as the season progresses, he puts most of his success down to the group training with other Holland Athletes & the camaraderie & support everyone has for each other regardless of what level of athlete you are.
And as always I’ll close this run report by giving a shout out to all local runners to come along to our group sessions you never know how many other Jacks we have out there waiting to blossom, however please do not be put off by our elite results! all levels are welcome and training is always tailored to your ability! So come on give it a go Summers just started enjoy it more by running!
