Holland Sports athletes continue to progress racing for Surrey Schools. Held at Dudley, the weekend of 22nd November saw three of Holland Sports’ rising middle distance stars racing for the Surrey Schools’ team in the West Midlands cross-country Championships. The club are proud of their individual performances, as they pitted themselves against some of the best young athletes in the Midlands and South-East.

Much like the senior athletes who compete in the Surrey League, the county of Surrey is one of the strongest running counties in the UK. Gaining county selection is no mean feat – Ella F backed her selection performance up in the county selection race with 8th place in her Year 7 inter-counties race. She was the third Surrey scorer home and part of a second placed Surrey County team.

Well done too, to Curtis Y, who finished 3rd Surrey scorer in his Year 7 race, placing 33rd overall with Charlie S finishing behind him as 8th Surrey scorer and 58th overall in a county team that won the county title in this age group.

In terms of developing base stamina, a strong core and an aerobic engine, cross-country is a great discipline that benefits the growing body in many ways – these athletes have excelled at the weekend showing that they are developing all these attributes that will help them in athletics and all the other sports that they turn their hand to while they progress through school: well done all three.
