Holland Sports Athletics Club makes up part of the Holland Sports and Social Association, a group of volunteers that look after the clubhouse, and manage the four sports that use its facilities: fishing, darts, football and athletics. Volunteer members of the Association look after the pitches at Mill Lane, the bar and also flip all the burgers for the athletic events held at Holland Sports. The Association’s aims are to promote sport, promote fitness and also to bring the community together so it was lovely that after the volunteers from this group had supported us so well at the recent Surrey League Division 1 cross-country, we could repay the favour and support them by providing most of the stewards for the recent Fireworks at Mill Lane as well as help sell burgers, teas and coffees. Many thanks to the volunteers from the Athletics Club that came along to help as well as the to the volunteers from the Sports and Social Association for putting on this annual event: it was lovely to see so many people who live locally and that are not directly linked to the sports clubs being brought together and having fun.
