Funetics (Under 10s)

Our introduction to athletics for those children of 7 to 10 years (School Years 2, 3, 4 and 5), aims to give children a fun, rounded grounding in athletics track and field. We use England Athletics resources and activities (Funetics) to provide a pathway for young athletes to develop fundamental movement skills and develop a lifelong love for the sport.

Run and lead by a group of Holland Sports Athletics Club seniors as well as keen parent volunteers, the group sets out to foster a love of sport as well as introduce young people to the wider benefits of being part of a thriving local, sports club.

Our Club Timetable shows when sessions take place and who to contact if you are interested in your child joining this group.

  • Thursday 16th April – Thursday 9th July 2026.
  • No session on Thursday 28th May (half-term).

Come and try the club for two sessions to see whether you and your child like our offer before you become a member.

You will need to sign up so we know your child is coming for trial sessions.

Coaching Team: Kirsty Cutting, Gemma Hall, Lyndon Marfell, Nici Jupp and Chris Blackburn.

A typical session will involve a warm-up to get the major muscle groups ready for athletic activity. Young athletes will then typically undertake a series of activities and games to improve balance and help to build strength, agility, balance and co-ordination. The session will always focus on an aspect of athletics: running, jumping or throwing designed to give young athletes a well-rounded introduction to the different disciplines involved in track, field.

Please note: During the winter, Funetics sessions take place in the large hall in the Scout Hut which is located next to the Mill Lane car park. During the summer, sessions will normally be outside on the track unless the weather is poor or inclement, when it will again take place inside the Scout Hut.

Athletes should bring suitable clothing for the weather and a water bottle.

Please note that changing facilities are fairly limited at the Mill Lane Track so athletes normally come ready changed for their session.
