It was another night of PBs at Battersea around the fast, flat two lap course this Friday. Conditions were cool and still – perfect for fast running and fast running there definitely was. There were four races across the evening, book-ended by the Elite women and Elite men’s races. Too many runners to mention all: well done to Harvey Voller, taking 15 seconds off his 5k PB to clock 15.31, closely followed by Tom Thornley 16.17 who again took a big chunk from his previous best. Kieran Barnes (14.40) took a second from his previous best with Christian Lee continuing his return to form with a new road PB of 15.07. Well done too, to Holland Sports new boys Tom Simpson and James Pickles for ducking under 17 minutes for the first time.
The Elite men’s race saw a new course record, with Holland Sports’ Jack Kavanagh taking the win in a PB of 13.33 – a time that puts him 13th in the UK all-time lists for 5k on the road. This puts Jack amongst some of the most high-profile names in UK middle-distance running over the last few decades – just three seconds behind Sir Mo’s best road time.
Battersea will again host twenty athletes from Holland Sports on Sunday when a squad of Masters (over 35s) head to the same venue and course for the British Masters 5k Road Championships: it promises to be another great event with more super performances from members of the senior squad.
