2026 started with the young athletes from Holland Sports Athletics Club in action at the Surrey County cross-country championships, held this year on the Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. The next generation of athletes is starting to take shape: all who ran should take confidence from competing against some of the best athletes that Surrey has to offer.

The Under 13 girls were led home by Eloise R., with Poppy E. and Nicky D. finishing just behind. The Under 13 boys race was very competitive and all can take great credit from their performances. Curtis Y. again continues to improve with every race, with Thomas S., Lewis F. and  Oscar S. rounding off the team.

The Under 15 boys’ race saw Charlie S. the first Holland runner home. His finishing sprint was as strong as anyone’s while Rowan K. again supported the club well: the strength that running races such as this will help him come the summer when he is back on the track.

Our Under 15 girls’ team was led home by Lottie W. with Chloe F. finishing closely behind: it was a tough course with both finishing strongly. Holland Sports had one representative in the Under 17s race with Thomas E. finishing in 46th place.

Lovely to see juniors graduating to the senior ranks with three young men now running in the Under 20s race. Well done to Ben H (12th) selected as an Inter County contender for Surrey along with Ewan M. (28th) and Lucas A. (32nd). All looked comfortable; all looked like they have more to give!

Well done to all who competed: a great day of racing and running.
