Another super turn-out from the seniors in the second Surrey Cross-country League fixture last weekend, that saw 31 local men and 15 local women compete across the undulating hills and woods of Beckenham Place Park. It’s a beautiful part of the world and the course made the most of this scenic park in South London.
Both the men’s and the women’s teams continue to impress, showing that they belong in one of the countries top cross-country leagues. Jack Kavanagh again led the men home, with Kieran Barnes excelling on this tougher course to come home in 23rd position. Great to see a returning Andy Green come home in 34th position, along with some excellent performances from Luke Davis and Tom Thornley to make up the scoring ten. Lovely to see Ethan Walter back in action after his recent marathon, as well as Aziouz Lammali making the top five in the V55 competition.
In the women’s race, the first Holland runner home was Lucy Berryman, coming home in 64th position backed up by Under 20 athlete Ruby Masson, Emma Proto (again returning from a recent marathon), Kirsty Cutting and another Under 20 athlete, Alice Martin. Great to see Heidi Quine making her Holland Sports debut over cross-country, as well as the continued improvement of both Amy Hickman and Angela Ramsier. Well done all.
Our next cross-country fixture is January 1oth on Mitcham Common.
