James Vancliff
James Vancliff is a passionate and enthusiastic Level 3 Athletics Coach, known for his dynamic coaching style. He has expertise in a range of events, including Inter Sprints, Junior Sprints, Long Jump / Triple Jump, and Throwing. His energy and dedication to athletics ensure that every session is engaging and tailored to help athletes reach their potential.

William McGinnis
Will is a dedicated Coaching Assistant who leads our javelin sessions and supports James in delivering high-quality training across the club. Passionate about athletics and athlete development, Will brings energy, enthusiasm, and a hands-on approach to every session.
Whether guiding athletes through technical javelin drills or helping out during group training, Will plays a key role in creating a positive, supportive environment for all members to grow and succeed.

Jeff Manson
A specialist cross-country and distance coach, Jeff worked for many years as a teacher in local secondary schools, promoting athletics and cross-country where he did so. He has consistently developed and inspired young athletes, gaining county and national success. He is a member of Surrey Schools Athletics Association, secretary of the local Epsom Downs cross-country league and has combined coaching at Holland with school sessions based at Oxted School for cross-country running and middle distance. Young endurance athletes increasingly transition into the senior endurance squad as they move from youth to adult competition. Jeff’s legacy is that as men and women re-discover running and the joy of competing in their early twenties or thirties, they have Jeff to thank for inspiring them in the first place in their teens.

Angela Howell
Angela has a real passion and enthusiasm for athletics and running, particularly for hurdles on the track and cross-country running in the track off-season. She is currently working alongside lead middle distance junior coach, Jeff Manson, supporting the development of the junior (School Years 5/6 – 8) and intermediate (School Years 9 – 12) middle distance runners at Holland Sports Athletics Club and is working to gain her level 1 accreditation from England Athletics, before moving onto to gain her level 2 qualification.

James Williams
James is a keen parent helper who supports the middle distance coaching team. He is a keen supporter of all the athletes at Holland Sports, champions the power of positivity and the value of being in a team. He combines his support of junior athletes at Holland with coaching at a local football team and recognises the power of a small, village sports club to help support the physical and emotional development of young people.

Neil danby
Lead Seniors’ Endurance Coach
Neil brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to our senior coaching team, drawing on over four decades of elite experience as both an athlete and coach. A former Olympian and Olympic Assistant Coach, Neil has also competed as a world-class Masters athlete and guided athletes to podium finishes at both national and international championships.
As an internationally accredited Level 3 Speed-Endurance Coach, Neil has worked alongside top-tier performance teams and institutions, including the British Olympic Research Centre, where he’s blended cutting-edge sports science with a grounded, athlete-first coaching philosophy. His approach reflects a unique synergy between evidence-based training and the practical wisdom earned through years on the track, roads and country both as an athlete and as a coach.
From Couch to 5K runners to high-performance competitors, Neil’s supportive and highly adaptable coaching style ensures athletes of all levels feel guided, challenged, and empowered. Whether you’re building aerobic base, refining your mechanics, or chasing a personal best, Neil provides the strategic insight and encouragement to help you realise your potential.

Chris Blackburn
Chris brings decades of experience in middle-distance running, with a proven track record of success at the highest levels. In recent years, he has earned multiple podium finishes at National and Great Britain events, secured national team selections in both cross country and road racing, and consistently ranked in the top 10 of the World Masters rankings.
He embodies the Holland Athletics Club philosophy that running is for everyone whether you’re chasing elite performance or taking your first steps into getting fit. Chris’ aim is that everyone enjoys being active, knows how to improve and is supported in that improvement, that they enjoy being outdoors and being part of a positive, welcoming sports club and community.

Emma Proto
Emma has been running since primary school, going on to hold school and club records whilst running for Croydon Harriers. Emma ran cross-country at both club and county level whilst at school.
Emma returned to running after being inspired by watching her father in the London Marathon, going on to complete it herself in 2008: the joy of running and competing again hasn’t left her since. Emma has gone on to run numerous marathons, many of them internationally and has worked hard to bring her times down for ‘Good for Age’ places at London, Boston and New York: she hopes to complete the Marathon Majors.
Emma is passionate about running, including in local cani-cross events with her four-legged friend, Benji. She is encouraging and supportive of others of all abilities, particularly ladies, so that they are able to experience the physical and mental benefits running brings and the joy of being part of such a special community.

Sarah Anderson
Running has been a defining part of Sarah’s life ever since 2009 when she spotted an offer for three issues of Runner’s World for just £1.00. Inspired, she subscribed and also signed herself and her husband up for a half marathon a few months later. The day after the race, she registered for the inaugural Brighton Marathon in 2019 – and she’s been hooked ever since.
Since then, Sarah has gone onto to complete the London Marathon three times in the Good for Age category and braved the rainy, icy and windy conditions of the 2015 Boston Marathon.
A Level 4 personal trainer, Sarah combines her passion for running with leading a busy schedule of group exercise classes, including bootcamps, spinning, kettlebells and Fitness Pilates.
Her involvement in the launch of the Holland Sports Athletics Club ladies team, has allowed her to put her Leadership in Running Fitness qualification, earned in 2012, to good use. She takes great pride in welcoming and motivating both new and returning members, helping to foster a supportive and enthusiastic local running community.

Anthony Moore
As a qualified Leader in Running Fitness and certified Guide Runner, Ant brings a wealth of experience built over hundreds of events which includes over 400 Parkruns and 33 marathons, including a personal best of under 3 hours for the marathon, achieved at age 51.
Ant’s passion lies in sharing the knowledge and insights gained from years of coaching and competing, helping others to discover their potential and love for running.

Oloff Van Zyl
Oloff has been supporting club and school head coaches with the development of optimal movement patterns for athletic high performance and injury prevention, in a Coaching Assistant role, since 2017. As a three-time World Ultra Multi-events age group champion, he has a broad understanding of conditioning fundamentals across all track and field disciplines. He has achieved international age group top twenty rankings over 400 metre hurdles, 800 metres, mile, 3000 metre steeplechase, indoor pentathlon, outdoor pentathlon and decathlon. He is only one of two M55 athletes that have scored over 13000 points in the icosathlon (20 events over 2 days). He runs his own sports massage therapy practice in the Oxted area where his experience as an all-round athlete complements his application of movement screening and manual therapy techniques offered to his clients. He occasionally brings his massage bench along to racing and training events, to offer fatigued club members some complementary post-event relief.
