Well done the eleven athletes from the junior girls squad at Holland Sports Athletics Club who made their way to Carshalton on Saturday to compete in the Plate final of the Lily B Athletics League. A great day of athletics with some great performances from the athletes that competed: well done all.
In the 100 metres, Holland Sports were represented in the Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 category. Well done Clara R who won her race on the track, with Clara F and Katy duelling it out for the win in their race. In the Under 14s their was a win for Phoebe in a new PB of 13.2, with Sienna also winning her race in a new PB of 13.9. This age-group has some depth with Paris, Brooke and Sophie all competing over this distance. In the Under 16 age-group, Lucy ran in the colours of Holland Sports for the first time, coming home 3rd in her race.
Over 200 metres, the club was well-represented again with Imogen, Sienna, Sophie, Paris and Brooke all running hard around the bend and then showing the strength that they have started to develop at training sessions by remaining strong over the last 50 metres. Well done Lucy, who came home 2nd in her Under 16 200 metre race.
On a less than ideal day, Isla came joint 1st in the Under 16 high jump, clearing 1 metre 40 in blustery and windy conditions.
Completing the afternoon were the relays. A mixed Holland / St. Marys team came home 4th in the Under 14 race, with a Holland Sports team taking the win. In the Under 12 girls’ race, a mixed Holland / St. Marys team came home 4th.
All these performance auger well for next year, when we hope to have an increased squad of junior girls competing over a greater range of events – with a winter’s worth of technique practice and training behind them – we are definitly a squad, a team and a club ‘on the up’!
