Jack Kavanagh backed up his second place in the 2025 UK Championships with a fifth place in 2026, proving without a doubt that he belongs at this level with the best runners that the UK has to offer. Sitting on the shoulders of the leaders for the first 4k, Jack held back when the decisive move took the first four runners away from the rest of the field at this point. He came through strongly over the last 600 metres using his strength and speed to close out the race with style but was unable to make up the ground to gain a second successive medal. Jack does almost all of his training locally, and can be seen at the track and on the roads most Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mill Lane in Hurst Green. A great ambassador for the sport – pop along on a week night to see how one of the UK’s top middle distance athletes trains – the speed of an elite athlete will take your breath away!
