Sixty teams of four started the second annual Holland Sports relays on Thursday evening, running a 1 mile loop of the local fields on a beautiful summer’s evening in July. Using a different course to the previous year, we welcomed both junior and senior teams from other local clubs, as well as having close to twenty-five teams of four representing Holland Sports Athletics Club. Lovely to have fifty local juniors running for the club this year – a real reflection of where the juniors have come from since Easter and the increasing numbers we are seeing at the track. After an informal event that included the youngest members of our Athletics Club, the action kicked off with an Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 event. Well done the under 12 girls team from Holland Sports that won their age group and the Under 12 Boys’ team who narrowly lost out to the team from Epsom and Ewell. Well done too, to the Under 14 girls’ team who came home second in their event, and the Under 16 Boys’ team who won their category.

The senior men’s title this year was taken by the team of Dan Schofield, Mark Burchett, Jack Woods and Douglas Aikman, with Tonbridge taking the ladies’ honours. The women’s Masters’ race was won by the team from Lingfield Running Club with the men’s title going to the ever-young team from Holland Sports.

A social, fun and informal evening, it was lovely seeing so many local athletes in action, as well as so many teams present from other local athletics and running club. A real success, we can’t wait to run the event again next year making it an even bigger occasion.
